A dice roller for board games, classrooms and RPGs

Lost the dice again? This online dice roller rolls classic six-sided dice as well as the polyhedral dice used in tabletop role-playing games: d4, d6, d8, d10, d12 and d20. Combine up to 20 dice in one roll, add a modifier and see the total and every individual result.

Each die is rolled with your browser’s cryptographically secure random generator, so every face has exactly the same chance – a fair d20 gives each number from 1 to 20 a 5% chance on every roll.

    How to use

    1. Tap + d6, + d20 and the other buttons to build your dice pool, or use a preset like 2d6.
    2. Optional: enter a modifier such as +3 or −1.
    3. Press Roll. You will see each die, the breakdown and the total.
    4. Tap a die to remove it from the pool.
    5. The history keeps your recent rolls.

    Ideas for using it

    • Board games. replace lost dice for Monopoly, Catan, Yahtzee-style games or backgammon (2d6).
    • Role-playing games. roll a d20 for attacks and checks, 4d6 for character stats or 2d8+3 for damage.
    • Math class. explore probability, compare the distribution of 1d6 and 2d6 totals.
    • Party games. use dice to choose challenges, numbers of moves or turns.

    Frequently asked questions

    Are the dice rolls fair?

Yes. Every die uses the Web Crypto API with rejection sampling, so all faces are equally likely and rolls cannot be predicted.

    What do d4, d6 and d20 mean?

The number after “d” is the number of sides. A d6 is a standard cube, a d20 has twenty faces. “2d6” means two six-sided dice added together.

How many dice can I roll at once?

Up to 20 dice of any mix of types in a single roll.

    What is the modifier?

A fixed number added to (or subtracted from) the total, as used in many role-playing games, for example 1d20+5.

Why is 7 the most common total with two dice?

Six of the 36 possible combinations of 2d6 add up to 7, more than any other total, so its chance is 6 ÷ 36 ≈ 16.7%.
